Albertslund South

The Albertslund Concept

Suburban housing built in the 1960s is no longer up to date in terms of general maintenance and energy efficiency. The Albertslund Concept in Albertslund South will change that. This project offers opportunities for contractors and construction companies with skills in building to high energy-efficient standards.

Suburban housing built in the 1960s is no longer up to date in terms of general maintenance and energy efficiency. The Albertslund Concept in Albertslund South will change that. This project offers opportunities for contractors and construction companies with skills in building to high energy-efficient standards.

The Albertslund Concept, for which the Municipality of Albertslund was appointed Nordic Energy Municipality in 2011, is based on building renovation that combines the latest energy technology, improved indoor air quality, and rational construction methods at affordable prices.

BO VEST, a non-profit housing association, has approximately 27,000 residents in 10,700 properties located in 4 different municipalities in the western suburbs of Copenhagen.

The housing includes courtyard houses, terraced houses (row houses) and apartment buildings.

BO-VEST saw a need for maintenance and extensive renovation in order to:

  • Rectify faulty construction
  • Improve the environment
  • Upgrade outdoor areas
  • Tackle emerging social problems, especially in the high-rise buildings
  • Find an alternative way of financing the activities other than by increasing rents, a solution which offers only poor returns

The city of Albertslund serves as a living climate laboratory where new green technologies and solutions are produced in close relation to the city's development and people's lives. To meet the challenge of housing in need of modernization, the municipality initiated a PPP that led to The Albertslund Concept being developed. The concept is suitable for many cities and is being implemented on a large scale in Albertslund.

Business Opportunities
Project financing is through the National Building Fund.

The project is of interest to contractors and suppliers within the areas of unfinished buildings, finishes, fixtures and equipment. BO-VEST is looking for contractors and suppliers with skills in building to high energy-efficient standards.
