Lighting Metropolis – Where Photons meet People
The ambition of Lighting Metropolis is to create growth and make the entire region a leading living laboratory for light. We invite companies within lighting and sensor technology to take part in this project.

Greater Copenhagen´s  largest ever cooperative project on lighting began in the autumn of 2015, just as darkness started to dominate the daylight. This is when players in the Capital Region, Region Zealand and Region Skåne embarked upon the Lighting Metropolis project, a ground-breaking partnership between municipalities, regions and universities, which also involves direct collaboration with leading companies in the lighting field.

The 20 concrete demonstration projects comprising Lighting Metropolis will take place in Danish and Swedish municipalities – right where the public meets lighting. Innovative lighting requires municipal decisions to be made across several different departments. In partnerships between municipalities, universities and private companies, the municipal demonstration projects will ask several important questions: how can we create the best lighting environment in our schools? What kind of lighting do people perceive as reassuring and attractive? How do we create better lighting for cycle paths? How do we envision the future of lighting when we build new residential areas and renovate old ones?

Business Opportunities

Leading international businesses have their eyes on Oresund as a potential showcase for smart urban lighting. Growth forecasts are excellent. In 2012 300,000 people in the EU were employed in the photonics sector - this figure is expected to double by 2020. Cities in Greater Copenhagen are open to cooperation with the industry and are trying out new possibilities. We are an advanced society with a great ambition to develop new ways of using light and smart lighting in cities. On top of this the Greater Copenhagen Region is home to major research centres focusing on photonics, as well as outdoor and indoor human-centric smart urban lighting, which further galvanizes the region’s position as an attractive innovation partner and potential international showcase.
Companies will have the opportunity to work closely together with the region’s leading cities and researchers in an array of concrete projects that will test and showcase your best solutions based on the cities' needs. You will work closely with leaders in the public sector and, as you will be part of the Lighting Metropolis projects international branding strategy, these state-of-the-art projects could become a cornerstone of your international sales .
