Køge Kyst

Køge Kyst

Køge Kyst transforms a former industrial harbour area into a new exciting, multifunctional and sustainable town district. The district will be a natural seaside extension to the existing, medieval town centre.

Køge Kyst will contain a mixture of iconic industrial buildings and modern architecture distinguished by creativity and high quality. Sustainability, in the broadest sense of the word, constitutes an overriding principle of the urban development.

Køge Kyst will see the transformation of a former industrial harbour area into a new, exciting, multifunctional and sustainable urban quarter. The area will form a natural coastal extension to the existing medieval town centre.

  • Køge Kyst will contain a mixture of iconic industrial buildings and modern architecture distinguished by creativity and high quality. Sustainability, in the broadest sense of the word, constitutes an overriding principle of this urban development
  • The proximity to Køge railway station provides a great basis for commuting to and from Køge. A new railway with a fast connection to Copenhagen and an expansion of the motorway will further strengthen transport links by 2019
  • New connections crossing the railway bring the old and new quarters together and become an asset for the entire town. The first connection - a new road tunnel - has already improved the infrastructure
  • Køge has already attracted several huge development projects. These include a regional hospital of approx. 185,000 m2, a doubling of the commercial harbour area and a campus with 5,000 students
  • Køge has a well-preserved medieval town centre, an attractive commercial life, an active cultural and recreational scene and direct access to diverse countryside and the sea. New retail and business areas will strengthen Køge’s position as an attractive commercial town and place for business
  • In 2017 a new retail area next to Køge Station opened. In total, the development in the Station Area covers 34,500 m2 with a mixture of shops, apartments, offices, a rehabilitation centre, a cinema, parking facilities, roof top gardens and an extension of the city hall – some of which is still under construction
  • Due to current investor agreements a total of 550 apartments will be developed in the South Harbour area divided between ten attractive sites near the sea, the beach and a preserved salt marsh
  • Annually, thousands of people use the temporary urban spaces, facilities and cultural activities which are developed in the area in co-operation with local, national and sometimes international talent. Culture is a main driving force behind Køge Kyst, and experimenting with temporary spaces and acitivities is a central part of the procject’s strategy
