Musicon

Musicon is a creative urban district that honours Roskilde’s prominent musical, innovative and artistic legacy. A legacy that is present throughout the development of new offices, various companies, residential buildings, green spaces and cultural activities.

Until 2006, the district housed the Unicon concrete factory. Today Musicon is transformed in to a whole new area of Roskilde City. People use the area for many different purposes:  during leisure, as a workspace, to settle, for excitement and new experiences. Also investors and developers find Musicon attractive and Roskilde Municipality continues selling properties to building projects. Former production facilities are also for sale, providing exciting development potential.

The urban development in Musicon has from the beginning been a dynamic process. Roskilde Municipality is building a city for people and therefore they listen to them and interact with them. The idea of Musicon is to stay open minded to new ideas and to embrace new possibilities and proposals. Today the area is growing from both the bottom and the top. With new added urban qualities Musicon is a unique area with elements from the old concrete factory mixed with new buildings and green spaces, which is combined with sustainable solutions and some of the best award winning architects.  In 2010 Musicon had 196 youth holdings and 20.000 square meters are over the next two years being realized and more to come.

Today the area represents businesses like entrepreneurs, artists, schools, skaters, gamers etc. and Musicon is known as an area with high diversity.

  • Until 2006, the Musicon district housed the Unicon concrete factory. Today, Roskilde Municipality had sold properties to building projects which successfully has given the area urban character, architectural innovation and new activities.
  • Today Musicon got over 50 various companies and new many new citizens moved in. Some former production facilities are now for sale providing exciting development potential, and some of them are already converted into other purposes.
  • Musicon is expected to be complete in 15-20 years and will accommodate 650 households and 2,000 workplaces.
  • Roskilde railway station is only 1 km away, making Musicon a 15 minute walk away if you arrive by train. The railway is adjacent to the motorway to Copenhagen and all other big cities in Denmark. A frequent bus connection to Roskilde railway station also adds to the district’s excellent public transport links.
  • Musicon has become a diverse, vibrant and different district with a mixture of existing and new buildings, temporary and permanent spaces, and spontaneous and planned activities. Squares and outdoor spaces are designed to be optimal places for staying, playing and meeting up, and new areas are coming up this year.
  • Musicons urban planning and development is rather unique. We are inviting investors to join our vision of creating a new kind of urban district, where creativity, art and music fill in the gaps between the buildings. So far it has been a big success.
  • In 2010 Musicon got 196 youth holdings and this year Musicon will get 35 family homes.
  • 20.000 square meters is being realized over the next two years and right now there is a dialogue about 35.000 more.
  • In 2016 Musicon got the world famous Ragnarock – Museum for pop, rock and youth culture. The museum is giving Musicon good mention from all over the world and we are very thrilled with the possibilities and reputation Ragnarock is giving the area.
  • Today you’ll meet a Musicon district full of activity, creativity and many different people. Musicon has a 16.000 square meter skate hall, office communities, dance halls, rehearsal rooms, an art school, a gallery, foodtrucks, restaurants etc. and together with the big event halls, they’ll set the scene for more than 70 open events every year.
  • Each year Roskilde Festival is held next to Musicon and the plan is to move their new headquarters in to the area within the next few years. This year they’ll also start the building process of Roskilde Festival Folk School which will be completed in January 2019.
  • In 2012 the award-winning Rabalder Parken was built – the world’s first combined rainwater basin and skate park and in 2014 Roskilde Technical School were built. Both of them added many people to Musicon and have therefore been very important for the development.Musicon is looking forward to create the vision of a new, creative urban district together with our investors.
