Helsingborg Express

The Helsingborg Express is an important infrastructure investment for Sweden and Helsingborg. It will drive urbanisation around the new route, which will connect the whole city from south to north. At two of the bus stops, Ramlösa and Helsingborg Central Station, passengers can change to the existing train stations, taking them directly to Copenhagen in 1 hour or Gothenburg in 1.5 hours.

The Helsingborg Express is an investment in a city bus concept incorporating high capacity, speed and ease of use. The new bus line will have 21 bus stops, be more direct and 50% of it will have a dedicated bus lane which will knock 10 minutes off the journey time for passengers.  The investment will ensure that there is efficient public transport in place for the many people who are expected to settle in Helsingborg.

Commuting and travelling by bus in Helsingborg has almost doubled in the past ten years. Today, the most heavily used route accounts for around 30 percent of all travel in city traffic, about four million trips per year.

The trend predicts a continued positive development, which means 22 million trips in city traffic in 2022 and an increase of the public transport market share as opposed to cars. To achieve this we need public transport to be attractive and sustainable and have substantial capacity in order to attract more passengers.

Sweden and Helsingborg have a long history of environmental awareness and sustainable thinking. Skåne Regional Council is also setting up some challenging environmental objectives for the future. By 2020, for example, 100 % of heating in the region will come from renewable sources and 100 % of all transportation will use renewable fuels. The Helsingborg Express is operated by Skånetrafiken.

The Swedish Government is responsible for 50 percent of the infrastructure investment, amounting to SEK 98 million.

The Helsingborg Express is expected to start operating in June 2019.
